Equipment OperatorTake your next step with Saulsbury Industries!Equipment Operators - Skid Steer, Excavator, and ForkliftBig Wells, TXDepending upon the assigned area, the Equipment Operator, under general supervision, must be able to operate a skid steer, excavator, and forklift- rough terrain.The type(s) of equipment operated varies according to assigned area. Incumbents may work independently or as a member of a work crew and receive direction from a supervisor or lead in their assigned area.Under appropriate supervision and/or designated direction, the Equipment Operator performs skilled work involved in construction, maintenance, and repairs; performs related and other work as required to maintain facilities in a safe and efficient condition.NOTE: The definition and examples of work for this position are for illustrative purposes only. Conversely, all duties performed on the job may not be listed.ResponsibilitiesOperates medium to large sized motorized equipment used in construction, repair, and maintenance work.Performs other related duties and responsibilities as required. Pick up spoils from job site excavations.Delivers to and picks up various equipment and materials from job sites.Knowledge of safe working and operating practices including traffic control and job site protection.Inspects, analyzes, and assists in the determination of the work to be done.Develops effective work plans, gives assignments and instructions to subordinates, and supervises their work.Determines methods and materials needed to accomplish assigned maintenance, repair, or construction.Performs lock-out and tag-out procedures to secure, deactivate equipment, and checks local switch point to ensure proper lock-out procedures are used.Ability to organize and carry out complex work projects involving the use of mechanized equipment.Performs work area clean-up and safety-related duties.Requires working in operating facilities and observing and abiding by additional safety policies and procedures.Gives suitable assignments to helpers.Other duties as assigned.QualificationsFive (5) years of experience in work involving a variety of layout, installation, and maintenance tasks.Have a high school diploma or GED equivalent.Possess a valid drivers' license with a good driving record.Safety RequirementsOn a continual basis, promotes an awareness of environmental, health and safety policies to ensure a safe working environment and ensures compliance with all accompany policies.Ability to pass drug test as mandated by the Saulsbury Industries and Department of Transportation anti-drug program.Must attend and successfully complete Saulsbury Industries safety training education.Attends safety meetings and specialty training as directed by management.Attends various training classes as may be assigned by management.Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.Ability to take needed safety precautions in performing the work.Physical RequirementsManual and finger dexterityEye-hand coordinationDepth perceptionAbility to see things clearly that are beyond arm's reach (far visual acuity)Ability to see small details.Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.Ability to climb 30-foot ladders without resting.Ability to maintain balance on catwalks and narrow work spaces.Ability to stand for long periods of time.Ability to reach above head while sitting or standing.Ability to reach below knees while standing.Ability to stoop or kneel.Ability to work 50 or more hours each week.Cognitive RequirementsReading comprehension skill to understand work orders, written instructions, technical manuals, safety procedures, and parts catalogs.Mathematical skill to perform basic calculations.Oral communication skills for routine and technical information exchange with coworkers, supervisors, or other personnelSkill in using hand signals.Ability to understand, remember and carry out oral and written directions of some complexity and to learn quickly from explanations and demonstrations.Ability to communicate with others and to assimilate and understand information, in a manner consistent with the essential job functions.Ability to operate mechanized equipment in a skilled and safe manner.Ability to evaluate work conditions and quality, and to make decisions regarding course of actions (decision making)Knowledge of construction operations and procedures and of the proper use of mechanized equipment, including cleaning, greasing, servicing, and making minor adjustments and repairs to equipmentAbility to organize and carry out fairly complex work projects involving the use of mechanized equipment.Ability to load, unload, and deliver equipment and materials and to transfer mechanized equipment from one location to another.Ability to check, clean, service and assist in making minor and emergency repairs to mechanized equipment.Obtained license as necessary to work in regulated states and municipalities.Temperament AttributesInterpersonal skills to cooperate with co-workers, supervisors, and members of other crafts.Ability to work under time pressure.Ability to respond quickly and calmly to emergency situations.Ability to make sound decisions in a manner consistent with the essential job functions.Ability to understand, remember, and carry out oral and written directions.Ability to take needed safety precautions in performing the work.Ability to document completed work including basic math to calculate measurements and quantities.Ability to analyze problems involving the operation of mechanized construction equipment.Responds to request to work overtime when conditions warrant and directed by managementWork EnvironmentAwkward or confining workspacesHigh placesOut-of-door environmentNoisy EnvironmentDirty EnvironmentAir contamination (dust, fumes, etc.)Saulsbury is an equal opportunity employer.
